U.G. Krishnamurti

U. G. Krishnamurti (July 9, 1918 – March 22, 2007)

U.G. Krishnamurti

U.G. Krishnamurti denied the existence of spiritual experiences and pursuits and instead phrased everything in terms of physiological functioning.  One month prior to his death U.G. reiterated:

What I am trying to emphasize over and over again is that what has happened to me has nothing to do with the spiritual nonsense they preach; it doesn’t have even a teeny weenie bit of spiritual content. It is a physical phenomenon pure and simple. Once this body is freed from the stranglehold of whatever is put in there either by spiritual teachers or secular teachers, or by those scientists and medical technology, it functions in a very efficient way.

While at times U.G. sounds eerily similar to Jiddu Krishnamurti, U.G. was often critical of Jiddu and all spiritual figures in general.

U.G. was also critical of thought and like the others listed on this page pointed out there were areas that thought could be of no help:

Thought creates frontiers everywhere. That’s all it can do. …it is thought that has created the world; and you draw lines on this planet, “This is my country, that is your country”. So how can there be unity between two countries? The very thing that is creating the frontiers and differences cannot be the means to bridge the different viewpoints. It is an exercise in futility.
